Siegerrebe

Lingering Perfume...

Siegerrebe is a newer grape variety bred in Germany by crossing Madeleine Angevine with Gewurztraminer. This wine has wonderful flavors of grapefruit, litchi nuts, flowers, and spice notes of clove and anise. We finish this white wine medium dry (about 0.75% residual sugar) which makes this wine great with appetizers, Asian foods or light curries.

2009—A Fantastic Year

There is nothing like preparing this wine for bottling. Finishing up the wine often involves repeated tasting to make sure everything is just right. Siegerrebe rarely disappoints and this vintage is no exception: Long after a sampling, I find that the after-taste of the wonderful litchi, grapefruit and spice is still lingering on my pallet, sometimes 30 minutes later!

We strive for balance with this wine: A crisp acidity to allow the wine to pair with food, a faint and mild sweetness to allow for straight sipping or to temper the hot of spicy foods. This vintage is an excellent example of this style of wine and what this variety can achieve!

Lopez Island Vineyards Puget Sound Siegerrebe

“This little-known German white varietal has found a home in the Puget Sound AVA, and this organically grown example from Lopez Island’s only winery is one of our favorites. Big peach and grapefruit aromas and flavors give way to good acidity for a pleasing summer wine. Pairs with: Alaskan rock shrimp pasta with a little spice.”
