Malbec 2009

Waluke Wonder—Organically Grown

Platinum Award, Winemaker's Challenge 2011

Malbec has come of age. People seek this wine, attracted to its great spiciness, black pepper and rich berry fruit—a wine born to pair with rich dark meats or heavy sauces.

Our version has proved very popular with our customers, selling out very quickly, and for good reason. This vintage is unique in our history of producing this wine; we have found certified organically grown grapes from the famous Doc Stewart vineyard on the Waluke Slope. This small AVA overlooks the Columbia River and is unique with its alluvial soils left behind from the Lake Missoula floods. The heat of this region combined with the sparse sandy soils creates some of the more powerful red wines in our state.

Our fermentation involves full skin macerations with gentle hand stirring so as to extract rich tannins and flavor. We then barrel age this wine for 12 months using 50% new French oak. It is bottled with minimum filtration to maximize the flavors. Enjoy with steaks and hearty foods!
