The most often heard comment I hear about this fine
Yakima grown wine is “I don’t like Chardonnay, but I really like this!”
Why is our Chardonnay not your “typical” chard?
What makes it different?
Needless to say, this is not an easy question to
answer.
Yet, I think that a combination of factors exist: many
Chardonnays are over oaked (too many new barrels) and grown in regions much
to hot for optimum subtlety.
These wines are often high alcohol, finished
slightly sweet, lacking acidity and taste of toasted wood.
Our wine exhibits a moderate acidity, with apple,
pineapple type flavors, complimented by a soft oak and butter background.
This comes from a soft hand at winemaking and
from the relatively cooler growing conditions of the Crawford Vineyards in
the Yakima Valley.
As with many of our wines, this wine is made to
pair with foods, to compliment rather than smother, to tango rather than
slam-dance, to sing in
the choir, rather than solo.
Truly, this Chardonnay is an
accompaniment...enjoy the taste of wine, not the taste of wood.
